Youth & Children's Ministry
Meet Our Youth and Children's Ministry Directors

Caliex and Cathlyn Gumbs have been involved  in Youth and Children Ministries for many years.

Cathlyn began working with Church of God of Prophecy Children’s Ministries at the age of 16 on her birth island of Tortola, in the British
Virgin Islands. The following year, she was selected to be a Counselor for younger children at the Caribbean Regional Youth Camp; this
was repeated for the following three years at both the Regional and District levels. During this time, Cathlyn had been appointed as Youth
Director on Jost Van Dyke in the BVI, and served the department for eight years.

Caliex had been involved in providing material and functioning on C.O.G.O.P. Youth Ministry teams in St. Thomas, USVI, as a teenager,
but only after returning from New York, he was assigned to work as part of the Leadership Group for the Youth Department. His specific
appointment was to re-establish the Children’s Ministries division, and along with supporting assistants, he helped reshaped the auxiliary
in the Region. For the seven years during which Caliex held this position, he held seminars on effective Children’s Ministries, traveled with
the children (called the “People Upstairs” due to where their first services were located) as representatives to District Workshops, and
directed the first Caribbean Regional Children’s Convention.

After getting married, Caliex and Cathlyn continued to work with the Youth Department and youth activities in St. Thomas. Cathlyn
established a Young Women’s Ministry as an offshoot of the Youth Services, designed to meet both the spiritual and practical issues
teenage girls dealt with; services involved the group (named the “DIVAS: Divinely Inspired, Virtuously Anointed Sisters”) in real-life
experiences and travel to work with other youth groups.

Together with Anointed Productions, they founded “Club baROCK”, a monthly Christian Club Event consisting of Gospel Music DJ sets
and live Gospel recording artist performances, as an alternative outlet for the island’s youth.

Shortly afterwards, the family relocated to Miami, Florida, and became involved in the Youth Department of a local C.O.G.O.P.  Along with
weekly services, they promoted out-of-building worship and Gospel Artist Concerts for the youth group as part of the full experience.
Cathlyn re-established and held lessons with a new group of “DIVAS”, including traveling to an annual C.O.G.O.P. Statewide Young
Women’s event, the “P.I.N.K.: Princesses In Need of the King” Conference.

After three years in Florida, Caliex, Cathlyn, and their son, Caliex II (Lex) relocated to Maryland, where they currently reside.

Young Adult Ministries

The tentative name that the group will be known by is ‘SHABACH INC.’ (‘Shabach’ being a
Hebrew word meaning “to praise with our mouths” and ‘INC’ meaning In the Name of Christ).
This will be a unique, identifiable label for name recognition when we have meetings or events.

Friday, August 5: The first day of the Kick-Off Weekend. Shabach INC. will hold an
introductory ‘Cocktail Fellowship’ in the Fellowship Hall at the church, starting at 8 PM.

Saturday, August 6: The second day of the Kick-Off Weekend. Shabach INC. will meet for dinner
and entertainment at the Rockville Town Center.

Sunday, August 7: The third day of the Kick-Off Weekend. Shabach INC. will attend service and
represent the Young Adult Ministries in dress and seating (to be boosted). During service, the
first of the four August Exhortations, “Forsake Not the Fellowship” (The Value of Socializing
with Other Believers) will be done by Avi, introduced by Caliex.

Sunday, August 14: During service, the second of the four August Exhortations, “Forsake
Not the Encouragement” (The Importance of Supporting Each Other) will be done by Triston,
introduced by Avi.

Sunday, August 21: During service, the third of the four August Exhortations, “Forsake Not
the Worship” (The Need to Grow Spiritually Together) will be done by Cathlyn, introduced by
Triston.

Sunday, August 28: During service, the fourth of the four August Exhortations, “Forsake Not the
Outreach” (The Mandate to Tell Somebody) will be done by Caliex, introduced by Cathlyn.

Subsequent to this, monthly get-togethers will be scheduled and held by Shabach INC.

The introductions (one minute) will be a brief biography of the speakers experience with the
Lord, as well as an explanation of the topic. The Exhortations (five minutes) will reconcile the
aspect of the topic in better serving God and ministering to each other.

We will establish a Facebook Group page and email address, which the leaders will jointly have
administration privileges and access. The page will be the best means of communicating with
and informing all members of upcoming plans, as well as a forum for discussion, promotion,
and prayer requests.
